One of the most difficult skills to learn in English is to write – many native speakers also find it challenging to write coherently and concisely. BEA students therefore participate in intensive writing workshops at the end of the first semester. For students new to writing, they take the basic writing workshops in which they learn how to write a paragraph. Their instructors take them through the entire writing process during the three-week workshop. For returning students, they take upper level writing workshops that build on the skills that they learned in the previous year.
In our writing lessons, the BEA kids spend their time brainstorming ideas, working in pairs to understand paragraph structure, playing games to learn grammar, and getting feedback from their teachers. BEA uses its own writing textbooks and teaching manuals that have been specifically designed for Cambodian students and teachers.
