Teacher Training Programs
BEA offers three types of teaching training programs, which are all run by BEA’s director, Nicole. The first type is the 60-hour intensive teaching training program. The program is limited to only 5 trainees, who spend a month with Nicole learning principles of education, teaching methods for teaching English as a foreign language, classroom management practices, and how to give constructive feedback to students and the teachers. They also have to teach their own classes, observe lessons from more experienced teachers, and participate in feedback sessions. The reason why we have this program is to provide training opportunities for our students who would like to be a BEA teacher or to teach at other local NGOs in Siem Reap. Team Teaching Training
The BEA teaching staff also participate in team teaching programs. The purpose of this one is to contribute to their professional development. The BEA teachers meet with Nicole to discuss difficulties in their teaching practices, and then together, they decide which lessons from the teaching schedule to work on together. The BEA teachers then have the option to either team teach with Nicole or to observe the lesson. When Nicole is in Japan, Shally, BEA's managing director, takes over the team teaching training. Online Teacher Training
When Nicole is back in Japan, she also runs an online teacher training program with the teaching staff. With this program, the BEA teachers choose lessons that they might have difficulty with during the semester. Nicole then plans a teacher-training lesson and emails it to the teachers. Once the teacher reviews the lesson, they Skype before the lesson to discuss changes and/or problems, and then after the lesson to reflect on the differences between the plan and the lesson itself. Below, you can see the online teacher-training lesson cycle. BEA teachers participate in online teaching training at least once a week.
