We made it through phase 3 of our Great Pumpkin Project just in time for Halloween! The BEA kids finished up their jack-o-lanterns with ribbons, sparkles and colored paper on the last day of our week-long Halloween festivities. By the end of the day, we had florescent-colored jack-0-lanterns decked out with colored hair, eye patches, hats and even bushy eyebrows! Before the students left at the end of the day, they got to do "trick-or-treating" in their classrooms and then in the library! It was a frenzy of face painting in the BEA library all afternoon! The BEA kids got to have their faces painted by our very-talented librarian, Sreynet, and school assistant, Chieu, as well a a few of our own students who volunteered to help out with our festivities. It was a first for me to do anything with face painting, and I had to watch quite a few videos so that I could train the staff before the start of our event, but I couldn't have asked for a better Halloween for the students. It was the very first time for all of them to celebrate one of my all-time favorite holidays! Many of the kids even went home with their faces painted to show their family and neighbors! What a way to end our week of Halloween festivities! Once the BEA kids finished decking out their jack-o-lanterns, they got to do a bit of trick-or-treating in their classrooms and in the library so that they could take part in every kids' favorite part of Halloween -- getting candy! However, it's really hard to tell what they liked the most -- making jack-o-lanterns, face painting, getting candy, or just having a great time with their friends! The BEA kids got into the spirit of Halloween with some of the water color paints from the supply cupboard in the office (and fortunately not the magic markers). The students turned themselves into ghouls and zombies to celebrate the holiday during their lessons!
